It's All About Not Knowing When To Shut Your Mouth

A Response To A Letter - 03.28.2003

This Letter was sent to Michael Moore as a response to a letter to the President that was posted at http://www.michaelmoore.com. You might want to read that before reading this so it makes some sense. I was too lazy to add exerpts from his letter here.

Dear Michael Moore,

Since you’ve posted this letter to the President on your web site, I’m going to assume it’s not a personal letter and that you wanted other people to read it. Well, I’ve read it, and it has inspired me to send a response. You seem like a pretty sharp guy so I am a little disappointed. Obviously, since the President is a politician it is implied that he will be lying and conniving so that’s no big surprise. To hint at the fact that any other politician would not do the same is irresponsible. Do you think if our electorate process was different and Gore was President there would be no lying and conniving in the White House? I think not. I think Clinton was a pretty damn good President and he lied and connived with the best of them. He also did some whoring, which is why he is one of my heroes. By the way, this is all dependent on what your definition of lying and conniving is and whether or not you inhaled.

As for your truths, I’m gonna have to disagree with some of them. If I’ve noticed anything during the debates over whether to go to war with Iraq or not, it’s that people have a habit for speaking for everyone else. Also, people tend to speak their opinion as though it were fact. I think you should use actual facts when writing to the President, or Governor or whatever he might be.

1. You say that there is virtually no one who is gung-ho to go to war. I’m gonna have to call B.S. on that one. Personally, I am against going to war at this point, but I have had to talk myself blue in the face to try to convince other people why we don’t have to go to war yet. And sadly, a lot of them do want to kill Iraqi’s if not all Muslims. The events of 9-11 have caused normally rational people to loose touch with reason and want some kind of revenge. I would have to blame that on the terrorists and Bin Laden though, not the President. I believe your time would be better spent convincing these people that Iraq was not responsible for 9-11 than going after the President for trying to do a tough job. It’s probably not as much fun, though.

2. Now this second one is pretty personal. I probably don’t follow politics as much as you do so could you please clarify this for me? Are you saying that the reason for our current recession is Bush? If so, that’s impressive. How long after Bush was in office did the recession start? On the first day or was it the second? What did he do directly that led to the current financial situation? Did he push some laws through to stymie the economy? If so, which ones? And was it on purpose? By the way, I got laid off last year and I blame my former employers for being terrible business people, not the President. Fortunately, I ended up getting a better job. If that was the Presidents doing, I want to give him a shout out – Thanks Dubbya!

3. Bill Marr was making a joke (a damn good one). Are you?

4. The Pope has also said that contraceptives are wrong - enough said. The Dixie Chicks should be persecuted for their taste in music, not their opinion of the President. I do think this war is going to cost George something though, the Presidency.

5. I totally agree with you on this one.

6. France… It seems Americans are finally getting back at the French for the years of rumored snobbiness they have shown us. They thought we were arrogant before. Oh hell. I think we should respect their opinion, but at the same time not really care.

To blame all of this country’s woes on one man, is kind of an easy way out. Our country’s government has checks and balances of power and to say that George W. Bush has somehow bypassed these is ridiculous. Congress could have put a stopper on the war thing when they had a chance, but they didn’t. Yes, they don’t have kids fighting in the war, but I guess that’s one of the perks of congress. That doesn’t mean that they want our children to die. They do have to get re-elected, you know. Dubbya’s certainly not the best president we ever had, but I think he seems like a pretty nice guy and he has a tough job that neither you nor I could probably handle.

By the way, I can’t wait to see Bowling for Columbine.
Nice Speech!

Peace Out - Y
